September Calendar for Dog and Cat Lovers

September has arrived, and so has this month’s edition of PawZaar’s calendar for dog and cat lovers!

September 1

The first of the month not only marks the end of the dog days of summer, it also marks the start of Happy Cat Month. Thirty days of dogged devotion to our feline friends, the pet holiday was established by the non-profit CATalyst Council.

“Anything for You”…more than just the title of one of her many chart-topping tunes, the words also express Gloria Estefan‘s feelings for our four-legged friends in need. A proud pet parent to multiple rescue dogs, the multi-Grammy Award winner has helped numerous no-kill animal shelters across the country, provided financial aid for the police dogs who guard Miami Beach and helped to fund the creation of a dog park in Vero Beach through her non-profit organization, The Gloria Estefan Foundation. The iconic entertainer also helped to shine a spotlight on homeless dogs and cats in New York City when she co-hosted the annual Broadway Barks pet adoption event in 2016.

From her days on Rowan and Martin’s Laugh-In to her Emmy-winning role in the recent comedy series Grace and Frankie, over the years Lily Tomlin has tickled our collective funny bone. The comic star has also touched our hearts thanks to her off-screen work in the world of animal advocacy. Recognized with a Petco Foundation HOPE Award, she has created a better future for our four-legged friends in need through her support of such organizations as Actors and Others for Animals, Performing Animal Welfare Society, PAWS/LA, Save the Chimps, and Voice for the Animals Foundation. Happy birthday, Lily Tomlin!

In 2017 the music legend launched I Will Survive fundraising T-shirts, with 10 percent of the proceeds from each sale benefiting the buyer’s choice of causes– world health, help for victims of domestic violence, families in need, the armed forces, and animal rescue. Fashion forward fans of Fidos and felines can request that their donation goes to either Danny & Ron’s Rescue or Best Friends Animal Society.
